International yoga day 2021


The first International Day of Yoga was celebrated on 21 June 2015 with great pomp across the world. On this day crores of people did yoga in the world which was a record. Yoga is such an effective form of exercise, through which balance is created not only in the body parts but also in the mind, brain and spirit. This is the reason that apart from physical ailments, mental problems can also be overcome with yoga.

The word yoga is derived from the word Yuj of Sanskrit, which means the union of the soul with the universal consciousness. Yoga has been practiced for more than ten thousand years.

According to the Vedic Samhitas, it is mentioned in the Vedas since ancient times about the ascetics. Sculptures depicting yoga and samadhi were also found in the Indus Valley Civilization. In Hinduism, Yoga civilization was adopted by sages, sannyasis and yogis from the very beginning, but not much time has passed since this method was expanded among the common people. Despite this, knowing the glory and importance of yoga, it is being adopted extensively for a healthy lifestyle, mainly because of its positive effects in busy, stressful and unhealthy routines.

In the authentic books of yoga like Shiva Samhita and Gorakshataka, four types of yoga are described -

1- Mantra Yoga- Under which speech, mental, upanshu and anapa come.

2- Hatha yoga

3- Layayoga

4- Raja Yoga- Which includes Gyanyoga and Karmayoga.

Patanjali is widely regarded as the founder of formal yoga philosophy. Patanjali's yoga is a system for controlling the intellect, which is known as Raja Yoga. According to Patanjali, 8 sutras of yoga have been given, which are as follows -

1-Yama - It includes speaking the truth, non-violence, not being greedy, not having attachment and not being selfish.

2-Niyamas - These include purity, contentment, penance, study, and surrender to God.

3-Asanas - Sitting posture is important in this

4-Pranayama - It is important to inhale, exhale and suspend the breath.

5-Pratyahara - withdrawal from external objects, from sense organs.

6-Dharana - It is important to concentrate on one goal in this.

7-Meditation - It involves deep reflection of the nature of the object of meditation.

8-Samadhi - This involves merging the object of meditation with the Chaitanya. There are two types of it - option and option. In Vikalp there is no way to return to the world. Therefore, this is the ultimate stage of the yoga system.

The three main types of yoga mentioned in the Bhagavad Gita are as follows-

1-Karmayoga- In this, a person performs his duties faithfully according to his position and duties.

2-Bhakti Yoga- Bhagwat Kirtan is prominent in this. It is recommended to people with emotional demeanor.

3-Gyan Yoga- It involves acquiring knowledge i.e. acquiring knowledge.

At present, yoga is widely adopted for physical, mental and spiritual health and peace. On 11 December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly recognized 21 June every year as World Yoga Day and the first International Day of Yoga was observed on 21 June 2015. For the first time, on the occasion of World Yoga Day, yoga was organized in 192 countries, including 47 Muslim countries.

On this occasion, 35,985 people performed yoga together in Delhi, in which representatives of 84 countries were present and India registered its name in the 'Guinness Book of World Records' by creating two world records. The first record was made for the maximum number of people doing yoga in one place, and the second for the maximum number of people doing the sum of the countries simultaneously.
