Raman Effect|February 28 is celebrated as Science Day in the country. This is the day when the great scientist CV Raman of the country invented the 'Raman effect', for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize.
The great physicist Sir Chandrashekhar Venkat Raman made an important discovery in the serious subject of physics on 28 February 1928. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930 for this important discovery made on the change in the rays of light upon passing through transparent matter. He was the first scientist not only in India but Asia to receive this award.

In honor of this discovery, it is a practice to celebrate this day as National Science Day since 1986. In 1954, the Government of India awarded him the highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna. The theme of National Science Day 2020 is 'Women in Science'.

Objectives of celebrating National Science Day -

The basic purpose of this day is to inspire students to new experiments in the field of science, attract them to science, and make them aware of science and scientific achievements.

On this day, programs related to scientific activities are organized in science institutes, laboratories, science academies, schools, colleges and training institutes. The 'Raman effect' is an effective tool in the study of the molecular structure of chemicals.

National Science Day calls for the continuous advancement of science in the country, its main objective is to clear up the misconceptions in the minds of the people about nuclear energy and only through its development can we make the standard of living of the people of the society more prosperous. 

Who was Sir CV Raman?
Sir CV Raman was born on 7 November 1888 in the then Madras Presidency (Tamil Nadu) in British India. His father was a professor of mathematics and physics. CV Raman did his BA from the then Presidency College in Madras and got his MA in the same college and chose the main subject Physics.

When CV Raman turned to a government job due to lack of facilities to advance in science. He participated in the competition examination of the Finance Department of the Government of India and got the first position. After this, he worked as Assistant Accountant General in Kolkata in 1907 but due to his passion for science, he continued to research in the laboratories of the Indian Association for Cultivation of Science and the University of Calcutta here.

The main inventions of Sir CV Raman
Physicist Sir CV Raman is an inspiration not only to Indians but also to people all over the world. He also researched the spectrum nature of steel, fundamental issues of steel dynamics, the structure and properties of diamonds and the optical behavior of many pigmented materials. He was the first to discover the nature of the harmonic of the tabla and mridangam.
