Blood Donation| Today the whole world is celebrating World Blood Donation Day. The purpose of which is to motivate people to donate blood. However, in India alone, approximately 1.36 lakh women die every year due to lack of blood. Which is 25.7 percent of the deaths during pregnancy and childbirth all over the world.
World Blood Donation Day is celebrated in honor of the Nobel Prize in science, Karl Landstein. He is credited with classifying human blood. The objective of celebrating this day is to promote blood donation and to remove the misconceptions related to it. Not only that, according to the National Health Service Blood and Transplant data, the number of blood donors has been continuously declining in the last five years. According to the report, male blood donors have decreased by 24.8% and female donors have reduced by 6%.
Need 1.20 million units of blood every year-
About 1.20 million units of blood are required every year in the country. But, only nine million units of blood is collected from the blood donors. With this, there is a shortage of 30 million units of blood every year.
These are the reasons for low blood donation-
Due to the rapidly decreasing blood donors in the country, there are many rumors spread over blood donation. According to the survey, vegetarians believe that iron is lacking in their bodies, so they can not donate blood, while many vegetarian meals are rich in iron.
Many people believe that donating blood after making tattoo on the body is not right. Whereas the case is exactly the opposite. Blood donation can easily be done after four to five months of tattoo or piercing.
During blood donation, the donor gives as much blood as the body donates its supply within 24 hours.
