Cancer Test | Cancer patients can now be easily identified in a single test. Researchers at IIT Mandi invented fluorescent nano dots to show the distribution of water within the cells.
Research has revealed that the distribution of water inside the cancer cell differs in comparison to the normal cells. This research can be given an easy choice to detect cancer cells. Dr. K. Nandy, the associate professor in charge of the research team, School of Basic Sciences, IIT Mandi said that it was recently published in the Journal of Physical Chemistry.
According to the researchers, the fluorescent nanodot material is the scale of the nanometer. That is 8,00000 times smaller than the thickness of human hair.
Nanodot is made of carbon and has hydrophilic (Attraction towards water) and hydrophobic (distortion of water). As it happens in soap molecules. Because of the attractive and repellent parts of the water inside the same nanodot, they settle themselves like hydrogen bonds of water.
By inserting nanodot in cells it showed that the hydrogen bonding and water content differ in different parts of the cell. The big thing is that hydrogen bonding networks appear different in cancer cells compared to normal cells. This was the first proof from his work that more water was found independently in nuclei of cancer cells compared to normal cells.
