Why is it done Shraadh?

Shraadh Karma is done in a special period of 15 days till the Ashwin Amavasya from Bhadrapad Purnima. Shraaddh is also known as the Pitra Paksha and the Mahalay. This year, from October 24 to October 8, the Shraaddh Paksha will remain. Such scriptures have such belief that in the days of Pitra Paksha, our ancestors who have died have come into the subtle form of the earth and accept the Tarpan of their families who live on the earth.


What is Shraadh-
Shraadh means worshiping your ancestors with respect. According to the Hindu scriptures, a person who has left his body, the auspicious resolution and renunciation performed with reverence for the fulfillment and progress of it is called Shraaddh. It is believed that the god of death, Yamraj liberates the soul during the Shraadh paksha so that he can go to its people and take the Tarpan.

Who are called Pitra-
Anyone whose family, whether married or unmarried, is a child or an elderly, a woman or a man has died, they are called ancestors or Pita. In Pitra paksha, the deceased man comes to the earth and blesses his family members. In pitra Paksha people give the "Tarpan" to the Pitra to make the stay in peace. Pleasure of ancestors or pitra brings peace to the home.

When comes the Pitra Paksha Yog-
In Hinduism theere is very importance of Pitra Paksha. 15 days of Pitra Paksha is dedicated to Pitra. According to the scriptures, the Shraadh side starts with the completion of the Bhadrapaksha and goes on to the new moon of Ashwin month. Bhadrapad Purnima is made to be conferred upon him, who died in any full moon of the year. It is said in the scriptures that in any part of the year, the shraadh should be done on the particular date when he died.

When the date of Shraadh is not remembered -
Remembering the ancestors in pitra paksha and worshiping them, their soul gets peace. The date on which our kin die is called the date of Shraddha. Many people have not been reminded of the date of death of their families. In such a situation, it is also mentioned in the scriptures that it is also redressed. According to the science, if anyone does not know the date of the death of their pitrac , then in this situation Ashwani Amavasya should be rendered. Therefore this new moon is called the Omnipotence Amavasya. Apart from this, if anybody has died due to premature death, his Shraadh is done on the Chaturdashi date. Such is the recognition the shraadh of father should be done on Ashtami and the shraadh of mother should be done on navami. 

Who should do Shraadh-
The son has the right to Shraadh. But if the son is not alive then the grandson, grandfather or widow wife can also make Shraddh. Husband of the wife can also do the wife if the son does not belong.
