Circumcision|According to the World Health Organization, 'female genital mutilation' or genital circumcision (FGM) poses a serious threat to the health of women and girls, and every year 1.4 billion Americans Dollars burdened worldwide treat health-related side effects.
According to an estimate, more than 200 million women and girls each year face circumcision for cultural and non-medical reasons.

It is usually done between birth to 15 years old and has a profound effect on their health, including infection, bleeding, or shock. This can lead to such incurable disease, which has to bear the burden throughout life.

According to figures released on the occasion of the 'Complete Intolerance Day of Genital Circumcision' observed by the United Nations agency on Thursday, the total cost of treatment of FGM health effects worldwide is $ 1.4 billion every year.

According to statistics, many countries spend about 10 percent of their total health expenditure on treatment of FGM every year. In some countries, this figure is up to 30 percent.

IO Askue, director of the WHO's Department of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Research, said, "FGM is not only a terrible abuse of human rights, but it is causing significant harm to the physical and mental health of millions of girls and women."

This is also destroying the precious economic resources of the countries. He said that more efforts need to be made to stop the FGM and to end its suffering.

The United Nations Children's Fund has reported that about a quarter of FGM victims, or about 5.2 crore women and girls, do not receive health care.

The death of a 12-year-old girl last month in Egypt once again exposed the dangers of FGM. According to UNICEF, although Egyptian authorities banned FGM in 2008, it is still practiced there and in Sudan.
