Bhasm (Ash) Aarti of Mahakal-
Offering Bhasm Aarti in Shiva Worship has a special importance. Bhisma's Aarti is an ancient tradition, and it is specially done all day in the world only in the Mahakal temple of Ujjain. According to Shiva Purana, the consummation is the essence of creation and one day the whole creation should be transformed into this ash. That is why Shivaji always holds the essence of this creation.
It is tough to get the Bhasm (Ash) from a pyre every day hence nowadays the incense made by burning of candles, shami, peepal, palash, bark, amalatas and berry tree woods made from Kapila cow’s dung is used simultaneously. During this, proper chanting is done and get bhasm which is filtered with a cloth. With this Bhasm the Aarti has to be done during the Worship.

Why the Aarti of Mahakal is done with Bhasm (Ash)-
Bhasm Aarti is the make-up of Mahakala and it is considered as a method of awakening, which is done every morning at 4 o'clock. It is believed that years ago Lord Mahakala's Aarti was done by the Bhasm of Cremation ground, but now the tradition has ended. Currently, arti makeup is done by the Bhasm of the wood of  Kande.

Women cannot see this arti, so women have to wear a veil for some time during the aarti. Bhasm has an importance and it is the main Prasad or blessing of Lord Shiva (Mahakal). By taking the Bhasm on Lord Shiva you will get relieved from many diseases.
As a result, many types of things are purified, by applying tilak of incense offered to Shiva, virtue is attained and liberation from the sins of many births. One of its specialties is that it closes the follicles of the body, which does not feel hot in summer and cold in winters. That is, Lord Shiva gives the message that according to the circumstances, the self-shield should be taken accordingly.
